Best Kodi Addons for Movies 2026

Best Premium Kodi Movie Addons (Debrid Required)

These addons require a debrid service like Real-Debrid, but they’re worth every penny.

1. Umbrella — Best Overall

Umbrella is the consensus #1 premium Kodi addon right now. I tested it with Real-Debrid on my Firestick 4K Max and it’s frankly absurd how well it works.

My testing notes: Searched for “The Substance” (2024) and found 47 cached Real-Debrid links in under 10 seconds. Selected a 4K HDR copy and it started playing instantly — no buffering, no waiting, just instant 4K playback.

The addon uses CocoScrapers to find links, so you’ll need to install that module separately (it’s in the same repository). Without scrapers enabled, Umbrella only searches your personal debrid cloud.

3. The Gears — Best for Newcomers

7. Ezra — FEN Fork with Speed

Status: Working (2026)

Ezra is another FEN fork with advanced features and extremely fast scraping speeds. Like other premium addons, it requires CocoScrapers for link scraping plus a debrid service.

My testing notes: Scraping is noticeably faster than most addons — found 35 sources in about 8 seconds. The anime section is excellent. Interface is clean and responsive on Firestick.

Best Free Kodi Movie Addons (No Debrid Required)

These addons work without a debrid service, but expect fewer links and occasional buffering.

3. Scrubs V2 — Free Links Only

5. Moria — Reliable Free Addon

Important: CocoScrapers Module

Most premium addons (Umbrella, Fen Light AM, Ezra) require CocoScrapers to actually find streaming links.

CocoScrapers is an external provider/scraper package that searches for links. It doesn’t work as a standalone addon — you install it alongside your main addon and select it in the addon’s settings.

How to use CocoScrapers:

1. Install it from the same repository as your main addon
2. Open your addon’s settings (Tools → Settings)
3. Go to Providers or Scrapers section
4. Select CocoScrapers as your provider
5. Configure with your Real-Debrid account

Without CocoScrapers enabled, addons like Umbrella will only search your personal debrid cloud — basically useless unless you’ve already downloaded content.

Discontinued Addons to Avoid

Asgard — NO LONGER AVAILABLE

Asgard was a popular addon in 2024-2025, but it’s been discontinued as of February 2026. The Narcacist’s Wizard Repository was renamed to Z3R0 Repository and no longer includes Asgard.

Use instead: Umbrella, POV, or Ghost

Original Fen — DISCONTINUED

Developer Tikipeter halted development of the original Fen addon. Fen Light AM by AnonymousMouse is the community-maintained fork.

Common Issues & Solutions

Buffering

Problem: Video stops to buffer frequently.

Solutions:

• Increase cache size in Kodi 21 (Settings → Player → Videos → Cache). Default is 20MB; increase to 100-200MB if you have storage space.
• Use a VPN to bypass ISP throttling (I use Surfshark).
• Get Real-Debrid for premium cached links that don’t buffer.
• Ensure minimum 10 Mbps internet for HD, 25 Mbps for 4K.

No Stream Available

Problem: Addon finds no working links.

I tested both Kodi and Stremio side-by-side on my Firestick 4K Max.

Stremio advantages:

• Easier setup (3 minutes vs 15+ for Kodi)
• More reliable day-to-day
• Cleaner, more modern interface

Kodi advantages:

• More addons = more content variety
• Highly customizable (skins, builds)
• Better for niche or obscure content
• More control over settings

My recommendation: Use both. I use Stremio for daily movie streaming because it’s faster and more reliable. I keep Kodi installed for when Stremio doesn’t have something, or when I want to explore different addons and repositories.

Should You Use a VPN with Kodi?

Short answer: Yes, especially if you’re using third-party addons.

For anime fans: POV has the best anime integration I tested.

For beginners: The Gears if you have debrid, The Crew if you’re staying free.

For advanced users: Fen Light AM gives you the most customization and control.
