How to Install Just (Video) Player on Firestick & Android TV (2026 Guide)
Just (Video) Player is a free, lightweight video player with advanced codec support. Here's how to sideload it on your Firestick or Android TV in minutes.
I’ve tried a lot of external video players on my Firestick 4K Max — VLC, MX Player, Kodi in a pinch — and most of them bring too much baggage for what I actually need. Just (Video) Player is the one I keep coming back to when I want a lightweight player that handles the audio formats Stremio’s built-in player struggles with: DTS-HD, TrueHD, EAC3. No library management, no bloat — just a player that plays things correctly.
The catch is that it’s not in the Amazon Appstore. You’ll need to sideload it, which sounds scarier than it is. I’ve done it a dozen times on different Fire TV devices. The whole thing takes about five minutes.
To install Just (Video) Player on Firestick, use the Downloader app with code 250931 (TROYPOINT Toolbox) to find and sideload the APK. Once installed, set it as your external player in Stremio or your preferred streaming app. The app is completely free — no subscription required.
What I Tested For
I ran Just (Video) Player on my Firestick 4K Max on a 500 Mbps fiber connection, primarily as an external player for Stremio. My focus was on:
- Codec support — specifically DTS-HD and TrueHD passthrough that trips up built-in players
- Remote navigation — whether D-pad control is actually usable from the couch
- Subtitle loading — external SRT files are a must for some of what I watch
- Setup friction — how annoying the sideload process is compared to just grabbing something from the Appstore
Here’s what I found.
What Is Just (Video) Player?
Just (Video) Player is a free, open Android video player built on ExoPlayer with the FFmpeg extension layered on top. That combination is what gives it broad format support that the stock Fire TV player — and even some popular third-party players — can’t match.
The headline codec support list: AC3, EAC3, DTS, DTS-HD, and TrueHD. If you’ve ever heard audio drop out or watched a 5.1 track collapse to stereo when playing a high-quality rip through Stremio, that’s the problem this app solves. It also handles external subtitles — long-press the file-open action to load an SRT or ASS file alongside your video.
It’s not a media center. It doesn’t manage your library or pull metadata. It’s just a player — and for that specific job, it does it well.
Is Just (Video) Player in the Amazon Appstore?
No — and this is the only real friction point with this app. Just (Video) Player isn’t available in the Amazon Appstore, so you can’t install it the easy way. Sideloading via the Downloader app is the standard method, and it’s what most guides (including this one) recommend. Even if you found a Play Store route, guides note that store builds can lag behind the sideloaded versions.
The good news: if you’ve ever sideloaded anything on your Firestick before, this is the same process. If you haven’t, I’ll walk you through every step below.
How to Install Just (Video) Player on Firestick
Step 1: Enable Unknown Sources
Before you can sideload anything, you need to tell your Firestick to allow apps from outside the Amazon Appstore.
Enable Unknown Sources on Firestick
5 stepsOpen Settings
From the Firestick home screen, navigate to the top menu and select Settings (the gear icon on the right side).
Go to My Fire TV
Scroll right and select My Fire TV. On older Fire OS versions, this may be labeled Device.
Open Developer Options
Select Developer Options. If you don’t see this option, you may need to enable it first: go back to My Fire TV and tap the logo several times (some Fire OS versions require this to unlock developer settings).
Enable Apps from Unknown Sources
Toggle Apps from Unknown Sources to ON. Your Firestick will show a warning — select Turn On.
Enable Unknown Sources for Downloader specifically
On newer Fire OS versions, you’ll see a list of apps. Find Downloader in the list and enable unknown sources for it specifically. This is the permission that actually matters.
Step 2: Install the Downloader App
Downloader is the standard sideloading tool for Fire TV. It’s free and available directly in the Amazon Appstore — no sideloading required to get sideloading set up.
Search for “Downloader” in the Amazon Appstore and install it. The orange icon with a down-arrow is the right one.
Step 3: Download Just (Video) Player via TROYPOINT Toolbox
Sideload Just (Video) Player
4 stepsOpen Downloader and Enter Code 250931
Launch Downloader. In the URL/code field on the left side of the home screen, enter 250931. This code loads the TROYPOINT Toolbox — a curated list of apps that includes Just (Video) Player. Select Go.
Find Just (Video) Player in the Toolbox
Browse or search the TROYPOINT Toolbox for Just (Video) Player. Select it to begin the download. The APK file is small, so it downloads quickly even on slower connections.
Install the APK
When the download completes, Downloader will prompt you to install the APK. Select Install. You may see another prompt about installing from unknown sources — confirm it.
Delete the Installer File
After installation, Downloader will ask if you want to delete the APK file. Select Delete. This recovers the storage space — Fire TV storage fills up fast, and you don’t need the installer anymore.
How to Set Just (Video) Player as Your Default External Player
Installing the app is only half the job. To actually use it with Stremio (or another streaming app), you need to set it as the default player.
Setting Up Just Player in Stremio
Set Just Player as External Player in Stremio
3 stepsOpen Stremio Settings
Launch Stremio and navigate to Settings from the main menu.
Find Playback Settings
Select Player or Playback (the exact label depends on your Stremio version). Look for a Default Player or External Player option.
Select Just Player
If Just (Video) Player appears in the list, select it and choose Always. If it doesn’t appear directly, select External Player — Stremio will hand off playback to whatever system default is set, and you can select Just Player from the Android chooser that appears.

Just (Video) Player
- Free with no ads or in-app purchases
- ExoPlayer + FFmpeg extension for broad codec support
- AC3, EAC3, DTS, DTS-HD, TrueHD audio passthrough
- External subtitle loading via long-press
- Minimal interface — straightforward D-pad navigation
I’ve been using Just (Video) Player as my Stremio external player for a few months now on my Firestick 4K Max. The specific problem it solves is audio: when you’re playing a 1080p or 4K rip through Stremio and the source has a DTS-HD or TrueHD track, the stock player often either downgrades the audio or just fails silently. Just Player handles those tracks without any fiddling.
The interface is minimal to the point of being sparse — but that’s actually fine on a Fire TV. Big buttons, simple controls, and the D-pad gets you where you need to go without frustrating multi-click menus. It’s not pretty, but you’re watching the content, not the player.
Where it shows its limits: it’s purely a playback tool. No library, no metadata, no playlist management. If you want a full media center experience, look at Kodi instead. If you just need something that plays what Stremio throws at it without making audio a problem, Just Player is exactly right.
✓ Pros
- Completely free — no subscription, no ads, no catch
- ExoPlayer + FFmpeg handles audio formats that trip up other players (DTS-HD, TrueHD, EAC3)
- External subtitle support via long-press — useful when source apps don't embed subs well
- Lightweight install — doesn't eat into Firestick storage like heavier players
- Works reliably as an external player target in Stremio and similar apps
✕ Cons
- Not in Amazon Appstore — sideloading required, which adds setup steps
- Store builds may lag behind latest version; sideloaded APK is recommended
- No media library or metadata features — purely a playback tool
- May not appear by name in some apps' player lists; requires the External Player workaround
Alternatives to Just (Video) Player
Just Player isn’t the only game in town. Here’s how the main alternatives stack up.
| Player | Price | Codec Support | TV Interface | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 🏆 Just (Video) Player | Free | Excellent (DTS-HD, TrueHD) | Minimal but functional | Stremio external player |
| VLC Most Popular | Free | Very Good | Decent | Local media playback |
| Kodi | Free | Excellent | Full media center | Complete media library |
| MX Player | Free/Paid | Good | Dated on TV | Android phone users |
VLC
VLC is the most widely known free video player and works on Fire TV. Format support is strong, and most people already trust it. The downside is that its TV interface feels like it was designed for a mouse, not a D-pad — navigating from the couch requires patience. For local media playback it’s solid, but as a lightweight external player for Stremio, Just Player edges it out on interface simplicity.
Kodi
Kodi is a full media center, not just a player. If you want library management, add-ons, and a complete streaming ecosystem, Kodi is worth the setup. But if all you need is something to handle audio passtthrough when Stremio’s built-in player falls over — Kodi is massive overkill. It also requires its own sideloading process and more configuration time.
MX Player
MX Player was the dominant Android video player for years. It still works and has decent codec support, but its Android TV experience feels dated compared to more focused players. It’s also moved toward a freemium model with ads in some versions. For Fire TV, it’s functional but not the cleanest option in 2026.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
Just Player doesn’t appear in the player list This is the most common issue. Go to your streaming app’s playback settings, choose External Player instead of looking for Just Player by name. The next time you play something, Android will ask which app to use — select Just Player and tap Always.
Audio sounds wrong or is missing Even with broad codec support, actual audio passthrough depends on your TV and receiver’s capabilities, not just the player. If you’re not getting DTS-HD or TrueHD passthrough, check your TV’s audio output settings — it may be set to PCM rather than bitstream. This is a hardware chain issue, not a Just Player bug.
APK install fails Make sure you enabled Unknown Sources specifically for the Downloader app in Step 1. If you only toggled the global setting, some Fire OS versions still block individual app installs. Go back to Settings → My Fire TV → Developer Options and confirm Downloader has permission.
Playback issues with certain files Just Player’s codec support is strong, but it’s not magic — if the source file is corrupt or uses an unusual container format, you’ll get issues regardless of the player. Try the same file in VLC to isolate whether it’s a player issue or a source issue.
Using Just Player with Real-Debrid + Stremio
The real unlock for Just Player is pairing it with Stremio and Real-Debrid. Real-Debrid provides premium cached links — higher quality sources with better audio tracks. Those higher-quality sources are exactly where you’ll run into the advanced audio codecs (DTS-HD, TrueHD) that stock players struggle with.
The setup flow: install Just Player → configure it as Stremio’s external player → set up Real-Debrid in Stremio → enjoy 4K HDR sources with lossless audio tracks actually working correctly.
If you haven’t set up Real-Debrid yet, it’s worth doing — especially if you’re already running Stremio. The quality difference on good sources is significant.

→Summary
Just (Video) Player is one of those apps that doesn’t need to be flashy to earn its place. It’s free, it handles audio formats that matter, and it gets out of the way so you can actually watch things. The sideloading requirement is a minor annoyance — the Downloader code 250931 makes it painless — and the payoff is a player that works correctly with Stremio’s best sources.
If you’re building out a solid Firestick streaming setup, the chain looks like this: Stremio + Real-Debrid + Just Player + Surfshark running in the background. That combination covers audio quality, link quality, and privacy in one go.
