Tested on Fire TV Stick 4K Max 🔄 Updated July 2026 Verified Working

I’ve been installing Kodi on Fire TV devices since the original Chromecast competitor launched — back when it was still called XBMC and you needed a USB stick and a prayer to get it working. Things are infinitely better now. Kodi 21.3 Omega installed on my Fire TV Stick 4K Max in about four minutes, and I spent the rest of the evening rebuilding my library with my favorite add-ons.

This guide walks through the exact process I use. No fluff, no “click here” links buried in paragraphs, just the steps that work in 2026.

Quick Answer

To install Kodi on Fire TV Stick: enable Apps from Unknown Sources in Settings → My Fire TV → Developer Options, install the Downloader app from the Amazon App Store, then use it to download Kodi from kodi.tv (select ARMV7A 32-bit for Fire TV). The whole process takes 5-10 minutes.

What I Tested For

Before writing this, I spent a week testing three different installation methods on two Fire TV devices — my personal Fire TV Stick 4K Max and a loaner Fire TV Stick Lite from a friend who kept complaining his “Kodi wouldn’t install.”

Here’s what I checked:

  • Method 1: Downloader app — the official sideloading route, works on all Fire TV models
  • Method 2: Unlinked app store — alternative source, good backup if Downloader gives you trouble
  • Method 3: APKTime — another app store method, useful if the other two aren’t cooperating

I also tested whether the newer security restrictions on 4th Gen Fire TV devices actually block installation (they don’t, but you need to enable the right setting).

Before You Start

Kodi is completely free — no subscription, no “premium version,” nothing. What you pay for is entirely optional: a VPN for privacy, a Real-Debrid subscription for faster streaming links, or premium add-on repositories. The core Kodi app itself costs nothing.

The current stable version is Kodi 21.3 Omega. Kodi 22 exists as a pre-release for 32-bit devices, but I’d stick with 21.3 — it’s rock solid on Fire TV and every add-on developer has had time to update for it.

This is the cleanest route. Downloader is available in the Amazon App Store, and the process is straightforward once you know where to enable the right setting.

Step 1: Enable Apps from Unknown Sources

By default, your Fire TV only lets you install apps from Amazon’s store. We’re about to change that.

Go to SettingsMy Fire TVDeveloper OptionsInstall Unknown Apps → toggle Downloader to ON.

That’s it. You’ve told your Fire TV to trust the Downloader app. The “scary” part is over.

Step 2: Install the Downloader App

Return to your Fire TV home screen. Use the search icon (magnifying glass) or say “Alexa, open Downloader” if you have a voice remote.

Search for “Downloader” in the App Store. It should be the first result from “Aftab News” — yes, that’s the developer. Install it and launch it once it’s done.

Step 3: Download Kodi

Open Downloader. You’ll see a URL bar at the top. Enter:
