Hulu Live TV Streaming on Firestick - Complete Guide
Complete guide to streaming Hulu + Live TV on Firestick. Get 95+ channels, unlimited DVR, and Disney+ bundled. Setup, troubleshooting, and competitor comparison.
I’ve been using Hulu + Live TV on my Firestick 4K Max for the past three months, and it’s become my primary way to watch live TV. After cutting cable last year, I tested every major live TV streaming service — YouTube TV, Fubo, Sling TV, DirecTV Stream — and Hulu + Live TV kept pulling me back for one simple reason: you get way more than just live channels.
For $89.99/month, you’re not just getting 95+ live channels. You’re also getting the full Hulu on-demand library (including originals like The Handmaid’s Tale and Only Murders in the Building), Disney+ with no ads, and ESPN Select. It’s the only live TV service that bundles premium on-demand content at no extra cost.
Hulu + Live TV works natively on Firestick through the Amazon Appstore. After subscribing at hulu.com ($89.99/mo), install the Hulu app, sign in, and access 95+ live channels plus unlimited Cloud DVR, Disney+, and ESPN Select — all in one place. Setup takes about 5 minutes.
What I Tested For
- Channel coverage — Are the channels people actually watch included, or is it filler?
- Streaming quality — Consistent 1080p on Firestick, or does it drop?
- DVR reliability — Does the “unlimited” cloud DVR actually deliver?
- App performance — Load times, crashes, and channel-switching speed on Fire TV
- Live sports — Delay, buffering, and picture stability during games
- Value — Is $89.99/month justified when you factor in the Disney+ and ESPN Select bundle?
I tested everything on a Fire TV Stick 4K Max running Fire OS 7.6 with a 200 Mbps connection over WiFi 6E.
Hulu + Live TV Pricing (February 2026)
Let’s break down what you’re actually paying for. Hulu + Live TV comes in three plan tiers:
| Plan | Monthly Price | What's Included |
|---|---|---|
| 🏆 Hulu (With Ads) + Live TV | $89.99/mo | 95+ live channels, Hulu on-demand (with ads), Disney+ (with ads), ESPN Select |
| Hulu (No Ads) + Live TV | $99.99/mo | 95+ live channels, Hulu on-demand (no ads), Disney+ (no ads), ESPN Select |
| Live TV Only | $88.99/mo | Live channels only — NO Hulu on-demand library, Disney+, or ESPN Select |
My recommendation: Unless you’re allergic to ads or exclusively watch live TV, the $89.99 plan is the sweet spot. You save $10/month compared to the ad-free plan and still get the full bundled experience.
The “Live TV Only” plan at $88.99 saves you exactly one dollar but strips out everything that makes Hulu + Live TV worth it — the on-demand library, Disney+, and ESPN Select. Skip it.
The ad-free upgrade to $99.99/month only removes ads from the Hulu on-demand library. Live TV still has regular commercials (obviously), and whether the extra $10/month is worth it depends on how much on-demand content you watch.
Add-Ons Worth Knowing About
| Add-On | Price | What You Get |
|---|---|---|
| Unlimited Screens | $9.99/mo | Unlimited streams on home Wi-Fi + 3 mobile screens |
| Sports Add-on | $10/mo | Includes NFL RedZone and additional sports channels |
| Entertainment Add-on | $8/mo | Cooking Channel, Discovery Life, MTV2, and more lifestyle channels |
| Español Add-on | $5/mo | Spanish-language channels |
I personally pay for the Unlimited Screens add-on because my partner and I are both heavy streamers, and the 2-stream limit was killing us during football season.
How to Install Hulu Live TV on Firestick
Good news — Hulu is available directly from the Amazon App Store. No sideloading required, no Downloader app, no APK files. It’s a straightforward install.
Install Hulu on Firestick
5 stepsSubscribe to Hulu + Live TV
Head to hulu.com/live-tv on your phone or computer and sign up for a Hulu + Live TV plan. Signing up on the web first avoids any in-app purchase issues on Fire TV.
Search for Hulu on Your Firestick
From your Firestick home screen, select Find → Search and type “Hulu” using the on-screen keyboard. You can also say “Alexa, find Hulu” if you have voice search enabled.
Download the Hulu App
Select the official Hulu app from the search results and click Get or Download. The app is about 50 MB and takes under a minute to install.
Sign In to Your Account
Open Hulu and sign in with the account you created in Step 1. You may be prompted to activate via hulu.com/activate — just enter the code displayed on your TV screen into a browser on your phone or computer.
Navigate to Live TV
Once signed in, head to the Live TV tab in the top navigation. You’ll see the full channel guide, and you can start streaming any channel immediately.
My testing notes: Installation took about 90 seconds from start to finish on my Firestick 4K Max. The app loaded quickly after the first launch, and the activation process via hulu.com/activate was smooth. One thing I noticed — the initial setup asks you to customize your channel guide, which I recommend doing right away so you’re not scrolling through channels you’ll never watch.
Channel Lineup: What You Actually Get
Hulu + Live TV includes 95+ live channels, and honestly, the lineup covers most of what people are looking for after cutting cable.
Local Channels
You get CBS, NBC, FOX, ABC, and Telemundo in most of the top 200 markets. I had all five available in my area. If local channels are a dealbreaker for you, check Hulu’s website to confirm your zip code is covered before subscribing.
Sports Channels
This is where Hulu + Live TV really shines — especially with ESPN Select bundled in:
- ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPNews
- FS1, FS2
- NFL Network
- CBS Sports Network
- TNT (NBA games)
- TBS (MLB games)
- Big Ten Network, SEC Network, ACC Network
- Regional sports networks in select markets
For a deeper dive into watching live sports on Firestick, I’ve got a separate guide that covers every option.
News Channels
- CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, CNBC
- ABC News Live, CBS News
Entertainment
- Bravo, USA, TNT, TBS, FX, Freeform
- HGTV, Food Network, TLC, Discovery
- Disney Channel, Disney Junior, Disney XD
- Lifetime, History, A&E, Syfy
What’s Missing
Hulu + Live TV carries 33 of the top 35 cable channels, but it’s missing a few notable ones:
- AMC — No Walking Dead, Better Call Saul reruns, etc.
- Hallmark Channel — A dealbreaker for some
- WE tv
If AMC is essential for you, YouTube TV includes it. Otherwise, the lineup is comprehensive.
Cloud DVR: Unlimited and Actually Good
Every Hulu + Live TV plan includes unlimited cloud DVR at no extra cost. Here’s what that means in practice:
- Record as many shows, movies, and games as you want simultaneously
- Recordings are stored for up to 9 months
- You can fast-forward through commercials on DVR recordings
My testing notes: I set up recordings for about 20 shows and every NFL game on CBS and FOX during the playoffs. Everything recorded without issues, and I never hit any storage limit. Fast-forwarding through recorded commercials worked perfectly — no forced ad breaks on DVR content. The 9-month storage window is generous enough that I never worried about watching something before it expired.
Compared to YouTube TV (which also offers unlimited DVR with 9-month storage), Hulu’s DVR is essentially a tie. Both are miles ahead of Sling TV, which only gives you 50 hours free.
App Performance on Firestick
Here’s where I need to be honest — the Hulu app on Firestick isn’t the fastest app I’ve used.
The Good
- Channel switching takes about 3-4 seconds, which is reasonable for live TV streaming
- Stream quality was consistently 1080p on my 4K Max with a solid WiFi connection
- Alexa integration works well — “Alexa, open Hulu” and “Alexa, watch ESPN” both work
- The channel guide is functional and lets you see what’s on now and upcoming
The Not-So-Good
- Initial load time can take 8-10 seconds on a cold start
- The UI feels cluttered — switching between live TV, on-demand, and My Stuff isn’t as intuitive as YouTube TV
- Occasional buffering during high-traffic events (I noticed this during a Monday Night Football game)
- No 4K live TV — live streams are capped at 1080p even on a 4K-capable device
✓ Pros
- Unbeatable value with Disney+, ESPN Select, and Hulu on-demand bundled in
- Unlimited Cloud DVR with 9-month retention and ad-skipping on recordings
- 95+ live channels including local networks and most popular cable channels
- Strong sports coverage (ESPN, FS1, NFL Network, regional sports networks)
- Native Firestick app — no sideloading required
- 3-day free trial to test before committing
✕ Cons
- More expensive than YouTube TV ($89.99 vs $82.99) and Fubo ($73.99)
- Only 2 simultaneous streams in base plan (YouTube TV offers 3, Fubo up to 10)
- Missing AMC, Hallmark Channel, and WE tv
- Interface prioritizes on-demand over live TV (extra clicks to get to channels)
- Rewinding live TV past ad breaks forces you to re-watch ads (annoying bug)
- Standalone Hulu app will shut down later in 2026 — transition to Disney+ app coming
Hulu + Live TV vs YouTube TV vs Sling TV
If you’re comparing live TV options for your Firestick, here’s how the big three stack up:
| Feature | Hulu + Live TV | YouTube TV | Fubo | Sling TV |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly Price | $89.99 | $82.99 | $73.99 | $40–$55 |
| Live Channels | 95+ | 100+ | 212+ | 30–50+ |
| Local Channels | Most markets | Most markets | Yes (no NBC) | Limited |
| Cloud DVR | Unlimited (9 months) | Unlimited (9 months) | Unlimited (9 months) | 50 hrs free |
| Simultaneous Streams | 2 (upgradeable) | 3 | Up to 10 | 1–3 |
| On-Demand Library | Full Hulu catalog | Limited | Limited | Limited |
| Bundled Services | Disney+, ESPN Select | None | None | None |
| Free Trial | 3 days | 7 days | Not available | 3 days |
When to Choose Each
Pick Hulu + Live TV if you want live TV plus a massive on-demand library, and the Disney+/ESPN Select bundle matters to you. It’s the best all-in-one package for families who watch a mix of live channels and on-demand content.
Pick YouTube TV if you want the cleanest interface, the most channels (100+), includes AMC and Hallmark, and 3 simultaneous streams out of the box. It’s slightly cheaper ($82.99/mo) and has a longer 7-day free trial.
Pick Fubo if you’re a sports fan who wants the most channels (212+) and simultaneous streams (up to 10). It’s the cheapest option at $73.99/mo. However, Fubo lost NBC channels in February 2026, so you can’t watch Sunday Night Football, the Olympics, or any NBC programming. Fubo also doesn’t have TNT, TBS, or CNN.
Pick Sling TV if you’re on a budget and don’t need local channels. Starting at $40/month, it’s the cheapest option — but the DVR is limited and the channel count is lower.
Hulu + Live TV
- 95+ live channels including local networks
- Unlimited Cloud DVR with 9-month retention
- Disney+ and ESPN Select bundled at no extra cost
- Full Hulu on-demand library included
Troubleshooting Hulu Live TV on Firestick
If you’re running into issues, here are the most common problems and how to fix them. I’ve dealt with most of these at some point.
Buffering or Lag During Live TV
This is the #1 complaint, especially on older Firestick models.
- Check your internet speed — Hulu needs at least 8 Mbps for live TV. Run a speed test on your Firestick.
- Move closer to your router or switch to 5 GHz WiFi instead of 2.4 GHz
- Close background apps — Hold the Home button, select Apps, and force close anything you’re not using
- Restart your Firestick — Unplug it for 30 seconds and plug it back in
For more detailed fixes, check out my Firestick buffering guide.
Hulu App Crashing or Freezing
- Clear the app cache: Go to Settings → Applications → Manage Installed Applications → Hulu → Clear Cache
- Force stop and reopen: From the same menu, select Force Stop, then relaunch Hulu
- Update the app: Open the Amazon App Store, go to My Apps, and check if a Hulu update is available
- Reinstall: If nothing else works, uninstall Hulu and reinstall it from the App Store
Black Screen When Opening Hulu
This usually means the app’s cached data got corrupted.
- Clear both Cache and Data from Settings → Applications → Hulu
- Restart your Firestick
- Reopen Hulu and sign in again
Live TV Section Not Loading
Make sure you’re subscribed to a Hulu + Live TV plan — the regular Hulu on-demand plan doesn’t include live channels. If you are subscribed, try signing out and signing back in, which forces the app to refresh your account permissions.
Can’t Activate via hulu.com/activate
- Make sure you’re entering the code exactly as shown on your TV
- Codes expire after a few minutes — if it’s been too long, restart the Hulu app to generate a new one
- Use a private/incognito browser window if you’re having trouble with cached login sessions
The Big Changes Coming in Late 2026
Here’s something you need to know before subscribing: the standalone Hulu app is shutting down in late 2026.
Disney announced in January 2026 that they’re consolidating Hulu into the Disney+ app. By the end of 2026, all Hulu content — including live TV — will be accessible through the Disney+ interface.
What this means for you:
- Your login credentials and viewing history will transfer automatically to Disney+
- You’ll still be able to buy standalone Hulu + Live TV subscriptions (you won’t be forced to upgrade to a mega-bundle)
- The Hulu app on Firestick will eventually stop working — you’ll switch to the Disney+ app
When does this happen? Disney hasn’t announced a specific date for Firestick, but they’ve already started shutting down Hulu on other platforms. The Nintendo Switch Hulu app was discontinued on February 5, 2026.
My take: This is a long-term positive. One unified app is better than juggling multiple streaming services. But in the short term, it’s going to be a messy transition.
Fubo Merger Complete
In January 2026, Fubo and Hulu + Live TV officially completed their business combination, creating the 6th largest Pay TV company in the U.S. with nearly 6 million subscribers.
What this means for subscribers: Nothing changes immediately. Hulu + Live TV and Fubo continue as separate services with separate pricing and channel lineups.
However, this merger gives both services more negotiating power with networks and could lead to better deals (or channel additions) down the road.

→Should You Subscribe?
Subscribe to Hulu + Live TV if:
- You want live TV and a deep on-demand library in one subscription
- You’re already paying for Disney+ or ESPN+ separately (you’ll save money by bundling)
- You value unlimited Cloud DVR and don’t want to manage storage limits
- You watch a lot of Hulu originals (The Handmaid’s Tale, Only Murders in the Building, The Bear)
Skip Hulu + Live TV if:
- You only care about live channels and don’t watch on-demand content (YouTube TV is cheaper at $82.99/mo)
- You need more than 2 simultaneous streams and don’t want to pay $9.99/mo for the add-on
- You’re a die-hard AMC or Hallmark Channel fan (Hulu doesn’t have these)
- You’re on an older Firestick model (Lite or 2nd Gen) that struggles with HD streaming
