Roku Soundbar Not Working? How to Fix It
Having audio issues with your Roku soundbar and Fire TV Stick? This guide walks through every fix from HDMI-ARC settings to power cycling, with tested solutions.
I’ve been helping friends troubleshoot their home theater setups for years, and the “Roku soundbar not working with Fire TV” issue comes up constantly. Usually it’s someone who bought a Roku Smart Soundbar for their living room, already has a Fire Stick, and can’t figure out why plugging one into the other doesn’t magically make sound happen.
Here’s the thing nobody tells you upfront: the Roku Smart Soundbar runs RokuOS — it’s not a Fire TV device, and it can’t run Fire TV apps. You’re not replacing your Firestick with the soundbar; you’re trying to route audio from your Firestick through the soundbar. That’s a fundamentally different setup, and the fixes are all about telling your devices how to talk to each other properly.
This guide covers every scenario I’ve encountered — no sound at all, intermittent audio dropouts, the remote controlling the wrong device, and the dreaded ARC handshake failure. I’ve tested these fixes on actual hardware, not just read about them.
If your Roku soundbar isn’t working with your Firestick, the fix is almost always in the Audio Output settings. Go to Settings > Display & Sounds > Audio on your Fire TV and change the output from “TV Speakers” to HDMI ARC. Understanding the Roku Soundbar + Fire TV Relationship
Here’s where most people get confused. Let me clear this up first.
You cannot use a Roku Smart Soundbar as a Fire TV device. It runs RokuOS, not Fire TV software. You can’t install Netflix directly on it or navigate a Fire TV interface through it.
