How to Install StreamX Stremio Addon for Torrent Links (2026 Guide)
Step-by-step guide to installing the StreamX Stremio addon on Firestick for torrent-based movie and TV links. Pre-configured, no fiddling required — just install, connect a VPN, and stream.
I’ve installed a lot of Stremio addons on my Firestick 4K Max — and most of them involve a fair bit of babysitting. Configure this filter, set that quality threshold, fiddle with the debrid settings until something actually plays. StreamX is the exception. It’s a torrent-based Stremio addon that arrives pre-configured and ready to go — no manual filter setup, no API key required unless you want TorBox integration. You paste in a URL, hit Add, and you’re streaming.
That said, there’s one non-negotiable step before you fire it up: get a VPN running first. StreamX pulls torrent links, which means your IP is exposed during playback. Skip the VPN and you’re streaming in the open. I’ll cover that too.
To install StreamX on Firestick: sideload Stremio using the Downloader app (code 250931 for TROYPOINT Toolbox), log into your Stremio account, then go to https://streamx.electron.al/configure on a browser to grab your config URL and paste it into Stremio’s Add Addon field. The whole process takes about 10 minutes. Connect a VPN before streaming — Surfshark has a native Fire TV app and takes 30 seconds to set up.
What I Tested For
Before we get into the steps, here’s how I evaluated StreamX on my Firestick 4K Max running Fire OS 8:
- Ease of setup — How many steps to get from zero to playing something?
- Stream availability — Does it surface links reliably for movies and TV episodes?
- Out-of-box filtering — Do you need to configure quality settings or does it just work?
- Sync behavior — How well does it sync between a PC install and the Firestick?
- VPN compatibility — Any issues streaming through Surfshark’s native Fire TV app?
StreamX held up well across all five. The pre-configured filtering is the real differentiator — where Torrentio requires you to manually dial in quality filters before it becomes useful, StreamX is plug-and-play.
What Is StreamX?
StreamX is a community-built Stremio addon that aggregates torrent links for movies and TV shows. It’s free, requires no subscription, and comes pre-filtered — meaning it surfaces decent quality streams without you having to configure anything.
The optional TorBox integration is worth knowing about: if you have a TorBox account, you can enter your API key during setup to route streams through TorBox’s debrid infrastructure instead of raw torrents. That gives you faster, more reliable links. But if you don’t have TorBox, StreamX works fine without it — you just get standard torrent sources.
Step 1: Get a VPN Running First
Do this before anything else. I run Surfshark on my Firestick — it’s available directly from the Amazon Appstore, installs in about 30 seconds, and has a one-tap Quick Connect button that works fine with a D-pad.
Get Surfshark VPN — 87% Off
→Once you’ve got Surfshark installed, connect to a server before launching Stremio. Leave it running the entire time you’re using StreamX.
Step 2: Install Stremio on Firestick
Stremio isn’t in the Amazon Appstore, so you’ll sideload it using the Downloader app. If you’ve never sideloaded before, the complete sideloading guide covers the full process — but the short version is below.
How to Install Stremio on Firestick
5 stepsEnable Apps from Unknown Sources
Go to Settings → My Fire TV → Developer Options → toggle Apps from Unknown Sources to ON. You’ll get a warning — dismiss it and confirm. This is how every sideloaded app gets installed on a Firestick.
Install the Downloader App
From the Firestick home screen, search for Downloader in the Amazon App Store and install it. It’s free and official — Amazon actually supports it for exactly this kind of use.
Use Code 250931 for TROYPOINT Toolbox
Open Downloader and enter code 250931 in the URL/search field. This loads the TROYPOINT Toolbox, which gives you a curated list of sideloadable apps including Stremio. Select Stremio from the list and download the 64-bit APK (for 4K Max, 4K, and Fire TV Cube).
Install the APK
Once the download completes, Downloader will prompt you to install. Tap Install, wait for it to finish, then tap Done (not Open — you’ll launch it properly in a moment). Delete the APK file when prompted to free up storage.
Log Into Your Stremio Account
Launch Stremio from your apps list. Sign in with your existing account or create a free one. Your account is what syncs addons across devices — so if you plan to configure StreamX on a PC first (recommended), use the same login on both.
Step 3: Install the StreamX Addon
Now for the StreamX-specific setup. You’ll grab a configuration URL from StreamX’s web interface and paste it into Stremio.
How to Add StreamX to Stremio
4 stepsOpen the StreamX Config Page
On a phone or PC browser, go to https://streamx.electron.al/configure. This is StreamX’s configuration page where you generate your addon URL. If you want TorBox-only links, enter your TorBox API key here. If you just want standard torrent sources, leave everything as default.
Copy Your Config URL
Once you’ve set your preferences (or left them default), the page will display your personalized addon URL. Copy that URL — you’ll paste it into Stremio in the next step.
Add the Addon in Stremio on Firestick
On your Firestick, open Stremio and go to Addons → Add Addon. Paste the config URL you copied into the field and tap Add. Stremio will connect to StreamX and install it automatically.
If you configured StreamX on a PC first: go to Addons → Community → find StreamX → Install, then open Stremio on your Firestick and tap Sync Addons to pull it across.
Enable External Player Playback
In Stremio’s settings, enable “Always start video in external player” and restart the app. This routes playback through your Fire TV’s native video player, which handles torrent streams more reliably than Stremio’s built-in player on Firestick hardware.
StreamX vs. Torrentio: Which Should You Use?
StreamX and Torrentio are the two most-used torrent-based Stremio addons. Here’s how they compare:
| Addon | Pre-Configured | TorBox Support | Setup Complexity | Firestick-Friendly |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 🏆 StreamX | Yes | Optional | Low | Yes |
| Torrentio | No | Yes | Medium | Requires PC first |
The short version: StreamX wins for anyone who wants a plug-and-play experience on Firestick. Torrentio gives you more configuration options — but you’ll spend time setting it up before it surfaces quality streams consistently.
StreamX Pros and Cons

- No dedicated Firestick app — everything runs through Stremio
Troubleshooting Common Issues
StreamX doesn’t show any streams for a title This happens occasionally with obscure content or very new releases. Try switching Stremio’s stream sort order, or disable TorBox-only mode in your StreamX config if you have it enabled.
Addon installed but not appearing on Firestick Use the sync function: Addons → Sync Addons in Stremio. If it still doesn’t appear, force-close Stremio and reopen.
Video stutters or buffers constantly First, confirm your VPN is connected — some VPN protocols add latency that affects streaming. In Surfshark, switch to the WireGuard protocol for lower overhead. Also confirm you’ve enabled “Always start video in external player” in Stremio settings.
“Stream not available” errors The torrent source may have limited seeders for that specific title. Try a different stream from the list — StreamX usually surfaces multiple options per title.
Pair StreamX With Real-Debrid for Better Links
StreamX’s torrent links work well for popular content — but if you want consistently high-quality streams for everything, pairing Stremio with Real-Debrid via a debrid-compatible addon takes things up a notch. Real-Debrid caches torrents on fast servers and serves them back as direct HTTP links. No peer-to-peer exposure, better speeds, less buffering.
The complete Real-Debrid setup guide for Firestick walks through the whole process. It pairs naturally with Stremio — once you’ve got StreamX installed, adding Real-Debrid to the mix is a logical next step.
