How to Install TPlayer on Firestick & Android TV (Better Playback)
TPlayer is the free sideloaded video player that actually makes your streaming apps worth using. Here's how to install it on Firestick and Android TV in under 5 minutes.
I’ve gone through a lot of video players on Firestick. Most of them either choke on HD streams, bury subtitle options three menus deep, or just look like they were designed in 2009. TPlayer is none of those things — it’s a free, sideloaded player that was clearly built with streaming apps in mind, and it makes a noticeable difference when you’re pulling links from something like TeaTV.
It’s not on the Amazon App Store, so you can’t just search for it and hit Install. But the sideloading process takes about 2-5 minutes, and if you’ve ever installed anything via Downloader before, this is the same drill.
To install TPlayer on Firestick: enable Apps from Unknown Sources in Settings → My Fire TV → Developer Options, then open the Downloader app and enter the URL tplayer.en.uptodown.com/android or code 730116. Download, install, grant permissions — done. The whole thing takes under 5 minutes and TPlayer is completely free.
What I Tested For
My Firestick 4K Max on a 300 Mbps cable connection was my testing device for this guide. The goal was simple: get TPlayer installed cleanly, pair it with TeaTV, and confirm it handles HD playback and subtitles without fuss. I also ran through the Downloader code method and the direct URL method to make sure both still work as of April 2026 — they do.
What I was watching for:
- Whether the Downloader codes are still active (yes)
- Whether the permission prompts show up correctly post-install
- Playback quality when used as the default player for streaming links
- Any download failures or install errors worth flagging
Why TPlayer Instead of the Built-In Player?
Your Firestick comes with a default video player, and it’s fine — until you start using sideloaded streaming apps. The built-in player often struggles with certain stream formats, drops subtitles unexpectedly, and gives you zero control over playback settings mid-stream.
TPlayer was built specifically for this use case. It handles HD links cleanly, gives you a proper subtitle menu, and integrates with apps like TeaTV so your streams actually open in a player worth using. It’s free, it’s lightweight, and it works with essentially every Firestick model and Android TV box out there.
Before You Start
Two things need to be in place before you run through the steps below.
1. Downloader must be installed. If you don’t have it yet, search “Downloader” in the Amazon App Store and install it. It’s free and official.
2. Apps from Unknown Sources must be enabled. This is the one setting that lets your Firestick install apps from outside the Amazon App Store. Without it, nothing installs.
To enable it: Settings → My Fire TV → Developer Options → toggle Apps from Unknown Sources to ON.
If you haven’t done either of these before, the complete sideloading guide walks through both in full detail.
How to Install TPlayer on Firestick
Install TPlayer via Downloader
5 stepsOpen Downloader
From your Firestick home screen, navigate to Apps → Downloader and open it. If it’s your first time, you’ll see a permission prompt — tap Allow to let it access your storage.
Enter the TPlayer URL or Code
In the Downloader URL bar, enter one of the following:
- URL method:
tplayer.en.uptodown.com/android— this is the official Uptodown source and the one I recommend - Code method:
730116— this shortcode redirects to the download and works just as well
Tap Go to proceed.
Download the APK
Downloader will load the page and locate the APK file. Tap Download when prompted. The file is small — it downloads in under a minute on most connections. If the download fails, head to Settings inside Downloader and tap Clear Cache, then try again.
Install TPlayer
Once the download finishes, tap Install. You’ll see the standard Android installation screen. Tap Install again to confirm. When it completes, tap Done — not Open. Opening directly from this screen can sometimes cause issues with how the app initializes.
Launch from Your Apps Menu and Grant Permissions
Navigate to your Firestick home screen, go to Apps, and find TPlayer. Open it from there. On first launch, it will ask for Allow Access — grant this permission. This is what allows TPlayer to integrate with other streaming apps and handle playback links correctly.
How to Install TPlayer on Android TV
The process on Android TV is nearly identical, with one difference: Developer Options lives in a slightly different spot depending on your device.
To enable sideloading on Android TV: Go to Settings → Device Preferences → Security & Restrictions → toggle Unknown Sources to ON, or enable it specifically for your file manager/Downloader app.
From there, use the same Downloader steps above — enter tplayer.en.uptodown.com/android, download the APK, install it, and grant permissions. TPlayer works the same way on Android TV boxes as it does on Firestick.
Setting Up TPlayer With TeaTV
TPlayer really earns its place when you pair it with TeaTV. When you tap a streaming link inside TeaTV, you’ll get a “Choose Player” prompt — select TPlayer and optionally set it as the default for all future links.
This combination gives you:
- Cleaner HD playback with fewer buffering interruptions
- A proper subtitle menu you can actually navigate with a D-pad
- Consistent behavior across different stream sources

Troubleshooting: Common TPlayer Install Issues
Download keeps failing in Downloader Open Downloader, go to its Settings, and tap Clear Cache. Then try the download again. This fixes the majority of failed downloads.
“Install Blocked” message appears Apps from Unknown Sources isn’t enabled, or on newer Fire OS it isn’t enabled specifically for Downloader. Go back to Settings → My Fire TV → Developer Options and check the toggle.
TPlayer doesn’t show up in the app chooser inside TeaTV Make sure you opened TPlayer at least once from the Apps menu and granted the Allow Access permission. Without that initial permission grant, some apps won’t recognize TPlayer as an available player.
TPlayer opens but playback is choppy This is almost always a stream quality issue rather than a TPlayer issue. Try a different server or quality setting inside your streaming app first. If the problem persists across multiple sources, check your internet speed using the Speedtest app — or run through the Firestick buffering fixes guide for a full checklist.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is TPlayer safe to install on Firestick? Yes, as long as you download it from the official Uptodown source using the URL above or the Downloader code provided. Avoid third-party APK sites with no clear origin.
Does TPlayer work without TeaTV? It does — TPlayer is just a video player and will open any video file or stream link you throw at it. TeaTV is simply the most common companion app, but it works with others too.
Will TPlayer still work after Amazon’s sideloading crackdowns? As of April 2026, standard sideloading via Downloader still works on Firestick. Amazon has moved to block specific apps at install in some cases, but TPlayer hasn’t been targeted. For the latest on what’s changing, see the Amazon sideloading policy guide.
Does TPlayer cost anything? Nothing. No subscription, no in-app purchases, no premium tier. It’s free.
Wrap-Up
TPlayer is one of those apps that quietly makes everything else work better. It’s not flashy — it’s a video player — but if you’re running sideloaded streaming apps on your Firestick or Android TV box, having a proper player underneath them matters. Five minutes to install, zero dollars, and noticeably better playback.
Pair it with TeaTV, set it as your default player, and you’re done. If you want to go deeper on building out a solid sideloaded setup, the complete Firestick sideloading guide covers everything from enabling Developer Options to managing your app library.
