How to Install Viva TV APK on Google TV & Android TV (V1.8.1)
Step-by-step guide to sideloading Viva TV V1.8.1 on Chromecast with Google TV and Android TV devices. Includes Downloader codes, Real-Debrid setup, and troubleshooting fixes.
I’ve been sideloading apps on Android TV devices for years — and Viva TV keeps coming up as one of the more reliable free streaming apps still standing in 2026. I installed V1.8.1 on my Chromecast with Google TV last week, walked through the entire setup from scratch, and it took less than ten minutes including Real-Debrid integration.
Google Play Store won’t list it, which trips people up. But if you’ve got the Downloader app and one code, you’re halfway there already.
To install Viva TV on Google TV or Android TV: install the Downloader app from the Google Play Store, enter code 5520952, and install the V1.8.1 APK. The whole process takes under 10 minutes. Pair it with Real-Debrid for buffer-free 4K links — that’s where Viva TV actually shines.
What I Tested For
I ran Viva TV V1.8.1 on a Chromecast with Google TV (4K model) running Google TV OS. My baseline connection is 300 Mbps cable. Here’s what I specifically checked:
- Whether the Downloader code was still active and pulled the correct APK
- How smoothly the initial setup and permission grants went with a TV remote
- Playback quality with and without Real-Debrid connected
- Navigation feel on a Google TV remote versus a phone-based remote
- The “Parsing the Package” error that trips up a lot of first-time installs
What Is Viva TV?
Viva TV is a free, sideloadable streaming app built on an Android base — which means it runs natively on Google TV and Android TV devices without any workarounds beyond enabling unknown app installs. Version V1.8.1 brings performance improvements across Firestick, Google TV, and Android boxes, with better link aggregation and faster loading on the newer device hardware.
It’s not on the Play Store. It never will be. That’s the deal. In exchange, you get free access to a large catalog of movies and TV shows, with optional Real-Debrid and Trakt integration that meaningfully upgrades the experience.
Viva TV
- Free with no account required to start streaming
- Real-Debrid and Trakt integration for premium-quality links
- Works natively on Google TV, Android TV, and Android boxes
- Simple Downloader code install — no PC or ADB required
- V1.8.1 includes performance improvements for newer hardware
✓ Pros
- Completely free — no subscription required to access the catalog
- Real-Debrid integration upgrades link quality significantly
- Installs cleanly via a single Downloader code (5520952)
- Trakt support lets you track watched content and get recommendations
- Works across Google TV, Android TV, Nvidia Shield, and Android boxes
✕ Cons
- Not on Google Play Store — sideloading required every time you update
- Requires a separate player app (TPlayer) for some streams
- Free tier link quality is inconsistent without Real-Debrid
- No dedicated Google TV-optimized UI — navigating with a D-pad takes getting used to
Before You Start
Two things to sort out before installing Viva TV.
First: unknown app installs must be enabled. Google TV locks this down by default. You’ll need to toggle it on or the APK install will fail silently.
Second: install TPlayer. Viva TV uses an external player for certain stream types. TPlayer is the recommended one and installs via Downloader just like Viva TV does.
How to Install Viva TV on Google TV (Step-by-Step)
Install Viva TV V1.8.1 on Google TV
7 stepsInstall the Downloader App
On your Google TV home screen, press the Search button and type “Downloader”. Find the official Downloader by AFTVNews in the Google Play Store and install it. This is the same Downloader app used across Android TV devices — free, and the safest way to sideload APKs without hunting for sketchy APK sites.
Enable Unknown App Installs for Downloader
Before the APK will install, Google TV needs permission to trust Downloader as a source. Go to Settings → Apps → Security & Restrictions → Unknown Sources and toggle Downloader to ON. On some Android TV builds, this path is under Settings → Device Preferences → Security & Restrictions instead — same toggle, slightly different location depending on your firmware version.
Download the Viva TV APK
Open Downloader. On the home screen, select the URL/Search bar at the top and enter the code 5520952, then tap Go. Downloader will resolve the code to the APK download link and start the download automatically. The file is small — downloads in seconds on any reasonable connection.
Install the APK
Once the download completes, Downloader will automatically prompt you to install the file. Select Install and wait for the process to finish — usually 15–20 seconds. When it completes, select Done (not Open — you’ll launch it after the next step). Then select Delete in Downloader to remove the APK file and free up the storage space.
Install TPlayer (Required for Some Streams)
Viva TV routes certain streams through an external player. Back in Downloader’s URL bar, enter code 250931 — this opens the TROYPOINT Toolbox where you can find TPlayer. Download and install it the same way you installed Viva TV. Grant install permissions if prompted. You only need to do this once.
Launch Viva TV and Complete Setup
Find Viva TV in your Apps section — on Google TV, go to Apps on the home screen and scroll to find it, or ask Google Assistant “Open Viva TV.” On first launch:
- Grant the requested permissions (storage access, network)
- Select your preferred subtitle language
- Accept the disclaimer
The app will load its catalog. You’re in.
Optional: Connect Real-Debrid or Trakt
This is the upgrade step. Inside Viva TV:
- Go to Settings (gear icon) → Real-Debrid → enter your Real-Debrid code from real-debrid.com/device
- Go to Settings → Trakt → authorize via the Trakt website
With Real-Debrid connected, you’ll see “RD” badges on premium cached links — these are the ones that actually load in 4K without buffering. Night and day difference from the free links.

→Real-Debrid: Why It Matters for Viva TV
Without Real-Debrid, Viva TV’s free links are inconsistent. Some work, some buffer, some are dead. That’s the reality of any free streaming app pulling from public hosters.
Real-Debrid changes this — it’s a premium link resolver that caches content on high-speed servers. When you connect it to Viva TV, the app surfaces “RD” links first. These stream reliably at the highest available quality, including 4K HDR on content that has it.
I watched two full movies through Viva TV + Real-Debrid on my Chromecast with Google TV. Both loaded inside 3 seconds from the poster screen and played without interruption. The free links on the same titles? One buffered twice, one just sat on a loading spinner.
If you’re setting up Viva TV for more than occasional use, Real-Debrid is worth it. Check the complete Real-Debrid setup guide for the full walkthrough — the integration process is identical on Google TV.
Try Real-Debrid
→Troubleshooting Common Issues
”Parsing the Package” Error
This is the most common failure point. It means Android couldn’t read the APK — almost always because unknown sources wasn’t enabled for Downloader before the install attempt. Go back to Settings → Apps → Security & Restrictions → Unknown Sources → toggle Downloader ON, then re-run the install from your Downloads folder (or re-download via Downloader).
Viva TV Won’t Find Streams
Free link availability varies by title and region. If a search returns no results or all links fail:
- Connect Real-Debrid — this surfaces cached links that actually work
- Try a different title to confirm the app itself is working
- Check your VPN server location — some hosters block certain regions
TPlayer Not Launching
If tapping a stream opens Viva TV’s built-in player instead of TPlayer, go to Viva TV Settings → Player → select TPlayer as the default external player. If TPlayer doesn’t appear as an option, it wasn’t installed correctly — reinstall it via Downloader code 250931.
Slow Navigation with Google TV Remote
Viva TV’s UI wasn’t built specifically for Google TV’s remote — it’s an Android app running in TV mode. The D-pad works, but some menus require a few extra clicks versus a touchscreen. The biggest navigation tip: the Back button is your best friend. Use it liberally rather than trying to find a Home button inside the app.
Should You Use a VPN with Viva TV?
Short answer: yes.
When you sideload apps and use third-party streaming services, your ISP can see the traffic. That’s not hypothetical — ISPs actively throttle heavy video traffic during peak hours, especially on cable connections. A VPN encrypts everything so they can’t see what you’re streaming or throttle based on it.
Surfshark is my recommendation for Google TV specifically because:
- It has a native Android TV/Google TV app on the Play Store — no sideloading required
- Unlimited simultaneous devices means one subscription covers your whole setup
- The Quick Connect button on the TV app is one D-pad click from the home screen
ExpressVPN is the fastest option if raw speed matters to you — relevant if you’re on a slower connection and every Mbps counts. NordVPN is a solid alternative with the largest server network of the three.
For a full comparison, see the best VPNs guide — all three have been tested on streaming devices and the methodology applies equally to Google TV.
Staying Updated on Viva TV
Viva TV doesn’t update through the Play Store. When a new version drops, you’ll need to:
- Open Downloader
- Re-enter code 5520952
- Download and install over the existing version
It won’t wipe your Real-Debrid or Trakt connections — those are saved in the app’s data. The update process takes about 2 minutes.
For now, V1.8.1 is the current release and working well. The sideloading window on Google TV remains open as of April 2026, but tutorials from early 2026 flag that Google has been tightening restrictions on third-party installs incrementally. Worth knowing if you’re planning to set this up and keep it running long-term.
